GLITTER AND GLAMOUR GRACE GUCCI GALA
Guest Kara Alloway had her hairdresser Jie Matar of Salon Jie decorate her blonde bangs with coloured gemstones to accessorize her christian louboutin newsprint dress purchased in Paris.
Alexandra Palmer, the Royal Ontario Museum’s fashion costume curator, was so impressed she asked if the museum could add the dress to their costume collection when Alloway is finished with it.
When will that be?
"When she’s yesterday’s news," hubby Graham Alloway replied.
No one seemed to mind that creative director Tom Ford was a no-show but Patricia Malone, president of Gucci North America, was in from New York and wearing a $1,835 (U.S.) ruffled leather shirt from the fall collection. There were also many handsome helpers in monastic black coats with leather trim to welcome guests inside.
It didn’t take long for the store to fill with invitees, many of whom were previously known to Gucci from regular visits to Gucci boutiques in New York, Chicago and Bal Harbour, Fla.
Chris Hyndman and Steven Sabados, who launch a makeover show called Designer Guys on HGTV in January, used Gucci accessories to punch up their leather pants from Gap. Hyndman topped his with a coyote vest by Izzy Camilleri and a graphic print shirt from Kensington Market, while Sabados was snug in a fuzzy Nicole Farhi sweater.

A portion of the evening’s sales went to The Power Plant, but it was difficult to get near the clothing racks with champagne swillers standing shoulder to shoulder from the handbag shelves at the front of the store to the footwear department at the back.
"They’re sold out of christian louboutin shoes," joked hairstylist and bon vivant Robert Gage. " But there’s hot pants for $8,000. Hurry, though, there’s only one pair left."
